Class Policies

Should you need to cancel or reschedule a class at Urban Spools, we require 72 hours notice.  A full refund will be issued or you may request a Class Credit to be used toward another class we offer.  If a cancellation is received less than 72 hours prior to the class, no refund or Class Credit will be issued.  This allows the teachers at Urban Spools to be fully prepared for the correct number of students and to allow for time to fill the slot in classes that often have a waiting list.

Kimberbell Lace Studio is a collection of six stunning Lace Portraits?all for the embroidery machine! In this class you will learn all the basics of creating freestanding lace a perfect accent to any garment or craft.

If you are on Instagram, you have seen many pictures of this cool bag! In this three-hour workshop, we will walk you through all of the steps to making this fantastic carry-all bag. There are pockets and zippers galore with spaces for all of your sewing gadgets. By the time you're done with the project, you'll be a zipper and binding pro! There will be some "pre-homework" for this class, so check out the supply list for all the info!

This monthly clubhouse will be the meeting place to see the latest Urban Spools Block of the Month programs and more. Each month, there will be a quick discussion for that month's block for each different block of the month quilt. There are four different block of the month programs and we will discuss each one separately.

Block of the Month offers projects for every skill level. But, sometimes we could all use a little extra help to figure out some of those finer details. Join us for this monthly session with an instructor where we'll review tips and tricks to help get through various sewing techniques Whether you are looking to expand you knowledge or just looking for some motivation to get started, this class is a great supplement to any BOM program offered at Urban Spools.

Need some motivation to finish those UnFinished Objects (or as we like to call them, UFO's)? Or some time away from home to help you focus while surrounded by other sewists? Then the UFO Lab is for you! This will be a full three hour block of self-guided sewing time with an instructor "on-call" to help you when you get stuck on your bag, garment or other small project (not intended for large quilt projects). Since each sewist will be working on their own unique project, perhaps you'll also get some inspiration for what you'd like to make next! Lab fee includes use of classroom sewing machines, tools and instructor's database of knowledge!

Fabric collage is so much fun and provide so many options! Learn how to create your own unique fabric collage using the Laura Heine's method. In this class, we will start the process of creating a quilt measuring 21 x 35 which could easily be converted into a brilliant wall hanging or center medallion in a larger quilt.

Learn the basics of garment sewing from taking size measurements, garment sewing tools and materials, and how to read commercial and indie patterns. Our goal is to give you the confidence and skill to start sewing garments!

The art of hand embroidery has been around since ancient times within every culture and continues to be one of the finest mediums for creative fiber arts. In this class, you will learn common stitch techniques used in hand embroidery and how to start and manage projects from beginning to end.

Add your own unique touch to every project with your embroidery machine. In this class, you will learn how to select the proper stabilizer for each project, hooping techniques, thread differences, and basic embroidery digitizing methods. You will also get to practice these techniques while making a simple hand towel embroidery project. If you have purchased your Baby Lock embroidery machine from Urban Spools, this class is offered at no cost. Simply call our store to add yourself to the roster.

Part two of our Intro to Quilting series will cover the quilting aspect of quilting. The art of attaching the quilt top to the batting and backing fabrics. In this class you will learn how to achieve straight line quilting and some of the free-motion basics. You will also learn about different presser feet, threads and, battings.

Multiple threads and double needles can be one of the most confusing things in sewing. 4-thread, 3-thread overlock, rolled hem, narrow hem, tension adjustments...oh my! In this class, we demystify the serger and explore all of the features and capabilities of this amazing machine. In no time, this will be one of the most cherished tools in your sewing room.

If you have been wanting to learn the basics about using a sewing machine, this class is for you. You will learn your way around the sewing machine, including how to wind the bobbin, thread the machine, perform general maintenance, and the use of the basic sewing machine feet. We will create a cute project while learning these skills. This class will build a foundation that will take your sewing where ever you want to go! Bring your own machine if you have one or feel free to use one of ours.

This after school camp is a great way for your tween or teen to jump into the world of garment-making. We will work through multiple garment projects. The students will finish this series with completed garments, fashion illustration skills and some beginning pattern making. We will use both woven fabrics and knit fabrics in this course.

Kids After School Sewing Club is back with some fun, new projects to get their creative juices flowing!

This after school club for more advanced sewer will be focusing on projects that build on the basics. Projects will include garment, bags, stuffed animals, and quilts. Club members should have completed at least one month of level I sewing club. You can take both level I and level II as the projects will be very different.

Go deeper into learning machine embroidery as we build on concepts taught in our Intro to Machine Embroidery class. Learn new topics including cutwork, quilting, in-the-hoop projects, and applique techniques.

Show off your mad creative skills as you face off against others to create something spectacular using only of the supplies provided and the machines in the store within 6 hours. Urban Spools will provide all supplies, sewing machines, a theme of the month, and a panel of judges. The selected winner will receive a $150 store gift card.

With so many new machines in the store, Urban Spools is looking to find inspiration from the community about what YOU want to learn and share with others! Join us for a fun afternoon as we discuss all the different options we're evaluating. Then, let's visit while doing a simple in-the-hoop project together....with an Urban Spools twist, of course!

In this 4 hour class, Denise will guide you through selecting all those key ingredients to quilting successfully at home whether you are working on a home sewing machine or long arm.
