Intro to Sewing with Knits

Class Description

Ever been curious about the overlock/serger machine and what it can do, but been too scared to try it? Students will be given some pointers on how to cut out knit fabrics and the differences between them and woven fabrics. 
The class will focus on making your very own T Shirt.  Once again you will be given in depth instruction on cutting our your fabric properly, how to use a twin needle, and how to insert a neck band. 

Class Prerequisites

Completion of Intro to Sewing or Intro to Sergers, or equivalent sewing experience. Please contact us for further questions.

Supply List: 

  • 2 yards of knit fabric (pre washed, not too thin, not double faced, with 20% stretch width wise
  • Tee shirt pattern (this will be available at the store for purchase and will be unisex)
  • tape measure
  • fabric scissors
  • twin needle for jersey knits
  • tailors chalk 
  • 2" clear ruler 
  • paper scissors

Requirements: Students should be comfortable using a sewing machine and have completed basic projects on their own Ages 15+
