Intro to Quilting Part 2: Quilting

Once you have mastered the task of creating a quilt top, it's time to learn the art of quilting - attaching the quilt top to the batting and backing fabric.

In this class, you will learn how to stabilize your quilt top, batting, and backing. In addition, you will learn how to straight line quilt on a home sewing machine using a walking foot. We will review the different types of thread, batting types, tips on maneuvering your quilt in your sewing machine and cover additional options for quilting larger pieces.

Skill Details: Ages 15+

Must have a working knowledge of how to operate a sewing machine. Just getting started? Take our Intro to Sewing class. This class is part of a three part Intro to Quilting series:
Materials Included: If you purchased the Intro to Quilting Series Kit, simply bring your kit to class along with your completed pieced top from Intro to Quilting Part 1: Piecing.

If you did not purchase the Intro to Quilting Series Kit, you will need to bring to class:

  • (1) Complete pieced top measuring approx. 36 inch by 45 inch (or smaller)
  • 1 1/2 Yd of quilting cotton fabric for the quilt backing
  • (1) Matching cotton thread, 50 wt
  • (1) Crib Sized Cotton Batting package
Requirements: Additional items you will need but are offered at classroom stations include:

  • Sewing machine (you may bring your own or use the classroom sewing machines)
  • Walking foot
  • Quilters Safety Pins (included at classroom station)
  • Snips
  • Painters tape (included at classroom station)
