In this Level 1 Skill Builder Project, you will construct a breezy, full-length skirt featuring a faux button placket, elasticated back waist, and pockets for comfort and practicality. Whether made in floaty rayon challis or sumptuous linen, this skirt will keep you looking cool and feeling relaxed throughout warmer weather.
In this class, we will be focusing on three garment sewing construction techniques:
Faux button placket is a decorative detail that creates the appearance of a button-front opening without functioning buttons, giving your skirt a polished look with simplified construction.
Elasticated back waist is a comfort-focused technique where elastic is enclosed in the back waistband to create a flexible fit while maintaining shaping at the waist, allowing for ease of movement.
In-seam pockets are sewn into the side seams of the skirt, providing functional pockets that blend seamlessly into the design.
We will review the pattern, practice each technique, and then apply them to your skirt, creating a versatile, flowing garment perfect for warm-weather wear.
If you do not own a sewing machine, we have the Baby Lock Presto II sewing machine available for use.
