Level 1 Bottom Skills: Stretch Pants

In this Level 1 Skill Builder Project, you will construct a pair of relaxed-fit unisex sweatpants featuring an elastic waistband with a drawstring and comfortable slanted pockets. This beginner-friendly garment project is designed for French terry and other knit fabrics, making it a great introduction to sewing with stretch materials.
In this class, we will be focusing on three garment sewing construction techniques:
Elastic waistband is a sewing technique that creates a flexible, comfortable waist by enclosing elastic within a waistband casing. This technique is common in casual garments such as sweatpants, shorts, and skirts.
Drawstring waistband is a functional finishing technique that adds an adjustable cord to the waistband, allowing the wearer to customize the fit while adding a classic athletic style detail.
Slanted pockets are a garment construction technique where pocket openings are set at an angle along the side seam. This style of pocket is common in pants and loungewear, providing both comfort and practicality.
We will review the pattern, practice working with knit fabrics and waistband construction techniques, and then apply these techniques to our pattern. The pattern selected for this class is designed as a unisex relaxed-fit garment suitable for a wide range of body types.
If you do not own a sewing machine, we have the Baby Lock Presto II sewing machine available for use.
