Intro to Garment Sewing: Button Down Shirt
Join us to make a button-up shirt with traditional details. This shirt has a relaxed fit featuring a button placket, classic collar and a back yoke. Students will choose between the Anna Shirt (sizes 0-24) or the Jensen Shirt (sizes 2XS-4XL) both by Wardrobe by Me. This is a co-ed class.
This class is designed for Students ready to tackle their first garment, but if you have made a few wearable pieces you will still find this class challenging. This class will cover how to create button holes, use interfacing and use the burrito method to create a double yoke which hides the seams and creates a professional finish to the inside of the shirt.
Please note that according to each Student's personal skill levels and learning styles, the shirt may not be completed by the end of the three sessions. Students are welcome to take the series again or attend a sit and sew to have studio sewing time for continued work on this project.
In the 1st session of 3, Students will learn how to correctly measure the body, select a size and prepare fabrics and cut out the pieces. Please note: there will be homework after this session including prewashing the fabric and cutting out fabric and pattern.
In the 2nd session of 3, Students will read through the pattern instructions, transfer pattern markings to the fabric and begin construction. You will also learn to sew specific techniques that will help them in the construction of their shirt. Please note: there will be sewing homework after this session including independent sewing.
In the 3rd session of 3, Students will learn to sew specific techniques that will help them in the construction of their shirt and go over final finishing techniques. Please note: there will be homework after this session including finishing the shirt.
