Back to Class!

The Urban Spools Classroom has been very quiet since March.  We've missed your faces and the inspiration that comes with a community of creatives gathered together.  We wanted to make sure that we were prepared to operate safely in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.  After months of planning, we are finally ready to get back to a regular schedule of sewing and craft classes.

Our classes will look a little different that in the past.  We are enrolling a maximum of 4 Students per class, with dedicated stations and supplies.  Every Teacher and Student will have their temperature checked before entering the classroom.  Face masks are required for all participants, and hand sanitizer is provided.  The Instructors are hyper aware of social distancing and sanitation requirements for the classes to proceed safely.  We believe that if we are all mindful of personal space and good health habits, we can gather together in a safe way.

Our classes are now enrolling!  Choose from topics like Garment Sewing, Hand Embroidery and our ever-popular Intro to Sewing.  We will be adding more classes throughout the Fall, and we plan to kick off a full schedule in the New Year.  As an extra safety precaution, we are not planning to re-launch Kids' Sewing Classes until 2021.

Visit our Classroom Calendar to browse our classes and enroll today!

Happy Sewing!
Stefanie

Meet Our Director

We are happy to introduce you to our new Director of Education, Ashley Leon.  She has been sewing for most of her life, but started quilting after taking a beginner quilting class at Urban Spools in 2015!  Since then, she received her art degree from the University of North Texas, where she learned surface design and weaving.  Her life goal is to spin yarn in order to weave her own fabric, and use this to make a quilt.  She is originally from Oklahoma and now resides in Dallas with her supportive husband and three grown children.

Holiday Apron &Tree Skirt

If you're looking for a quick Holiday project, check out the Merry Little Chrstimas panels from Riley Blake Designs.  Choose the Apron or Christmas Tree Skirt panels, and finish them with coordinating prints from the collection.

Our Favorite Things

Every Sewist has a secret weapon in her sewing room.  For Kim, her favorite thing is Sue Daley's Rotating Cutting Mat.  This 16" round cutting mat spins, making cutting fabric easier for English Paper Piecing or cutting quilt blocks.  Plus, it's pink!

Free Pumpkin Pattern

Just in time for Autumn, Amy Friend of the blog During Quiet Time, brings you a free pattern for Foundation Paper Piecing!  This pumpkin is perfect for pairing with Amy's other patterns in her book "Petal + Stem."  Visit her blog to find out more.
