Gathering Again

I love the new year. Not only do I start off a fresh calendar (filled with kittens, of course!), but I also use this time to reflect on my goals and where I want to improve.

I truly love sewing with our Urban Spools Community, so naturally, I have sewing goals! For me, I spent 2022 learning quilting in the hoop techniques on quilts, bags, and garments. For 2023, I am shifting my focus to sergers and how to get the most of it on all the projects we work on at Urban Spools.

Our shop also has a big sewing goal this year! We are focused on rebuilding Community in our shop. We have several new Block of the Month programs with in-person Kick-Off Parties. And, we're getting back to in-person Clubhouse Meetings, beginning this Saturday, January 28 and on the 4th Saturday of every month at 10 am. We are sew excited to gather again with our Community who shares our passion for the Art of Sewing.

Welcome to the Team, Joanne!

Joanne is starting a new role as our dedicated Baby Lock Specialist. She has been sewing & quilting since she was 5 and owned an embroidery business for 15 years. She recently retired from Garland ISD after 25 years as a data clerk.

Throughout the year, she will be working on getting Baby Lock certified in sewing machines, embroidery machines, sergers and longarms. We look forward to her helping our Customers reach their sewing goals.

New Fabric Arrival

Hometown by Tilda Fabrics: Inspired by smalltown life, Hometown celebrates springtime gardens and gathering with friends in the newest Tilda collection. The vivid green, plum and rust-colored prints showcase idyllic houses and miniature floral landscapes. The "Eden" print has been especially popular in the shop this week. Plus, a new arrival of colorful chambrays accompany the collection.

Upcoming Events

Potholder of the Month Club: We're just a month away from the launch of our newest BOM program. Over the next 6 months, we're making 6 sets of unique potholders to keep or give as gifts. Participants will receive a pattern and fabric for a different pair each month. Mark your calendars for our Kick-Off Party on Saturday, February 25 at 3 pm at Urban Spools. Tips from our Team

From our Longarm Quilter, Cathy: I enjoy free-motion quilting on my domestic machine and longarm at home. If you've ever been interested in free-motion, you may be intimidated about where to begin. I invested in a small dry erase board and use it when I sit and watch TV. I doodle designs and can erase the mistakes and redraw. It's all about the brain and muscle memory to provide a smooth motion.

Urban Spools is Moving!

After 10 years in Casa Linda Plaza, we are moving on to a bigger and better location! But, this relocation will happen in 2 phases.

Phase 1: Temp Location starting June 1, 2024

We are now open for business in our temporary home approximately 1 mile from Mr Sewing Machine in West Dallas at 2936 Reward Lane. Here, we will continue to offer the products and services you expect from Urban Spools - Baby Lock sewing machines, modern fabric, patterns, sewing classes, longarm quilting services, and machine repair services.

Phase 2: NEW Location for 2025

Early 2025, we will open our new permanent home back in East Dallas. Our new location will offer more retail space, additional classroom capacity, and an overall better location experience to better serve you. We will keep you all informed with dates and details on our website, social media, and at our temp location so stay tuned!
