ABOUT MICHELLE
TEACHER, QUILTER, SEWIST
Urban Spools is a continuation of Michelle Kitto’s lifelong love affair with textiles and sewing. Creating with her hands has always been a hobby, a form of therapy, and a passion for Michelle. She prefers functional art that brightens the home and expresses the maker’s personality.ARTIST WITH NUMEROUS TALENTS
Like many creative types, Michelle is an artist with numerous talents, including fused glass, appliqué, quilt making, garment sewing, and embroidery. A sewing teacher for more than a dozen years, Michelle’s passion for her subject is evident. Sharing her knowledge and skills with new sewists brings her joy and satisfaction. Michelle believes that everyone has a creative side and when we nurture that side of ourselves, our whole life is richer for it. Her mission with Urban Spools is to help others discover their own creative passion.A DREAM 30 YEARS IN THE MAKING
Urban Spools would not exist without the love and support of Michelle’s husband Glen who is generous to a fault and friend to man, child, and beast. Glen is also a creative type, dabbling in ceramics and photography. His second love after Michelle is a 1963 Italian Lambretta scooter named Lola. Between the two of them, Michelle and Glen have three children and two grandchildren. Week days, Glen is busy working in a commercial real estate career, but can be found most weekends helping around the shop. Urban Spools is a dream nearly 30 years in the making. Whether you take a class with us or just stop by for a cup of coffee and a chat about fabrics, we would love to meet you.everyone has a creative side and when
